Welcome to love your hippocampus. In a world of infinite scrolling, our aim is to give you information about you and your supercomputer in a concise manner. Plus hippocampus is cool name!
The hippocampus is that wonderful part of the brain found in the inner folds of the temporal lobe, that mainly controls learning, short and long term memory, visual-spatial memory and more.
As memory and learning are pivotal functions of a human being that contribute to mental as well as physical health, other areas such as verbal memory and recollection of experiences, are also taken into consideration.
Our research is taking us down several routes which include cognition, consciousness, perception, behaviour, motivation, mindset, drive/will and rewiring (also known as neuroplasticity). All research topics can be found on the Areas of focus and research page.
In a time where it feels mandatory to be switched on all the time, knowing what your body can do is vital.
Love your hippo was originally the campaign by SOCLI (study of cognitive learning and information), who published varied material that focused on general knowledge. Many of the original posts can be found on this website.
SOCLI no longer exists, and let’s face it, Love your Hippo is a more catchy name and alongside everything else we do, we do also love hippos (as in the animal).
On this site, we also provide learning and memory hacks, tips and tricks and guidance on the best places to learn, as learning is not only instinctive, it is an individual practice.
Our podcast is called What’s your ABC run by the owner of Love your Hippo K J Foxhall, bringing you factual answers to random questions often asked by K J Foxhall (and her warped friends).
We have some recommended reading and art pages because creativity is good for the mind, AND there’s more*, we also have an online shop called DragonKind Novelties (DKN) which stocks handmade goodies such as resin dragons, wooden keyrings, candles and more to fund our little escapade.
We are always happy to answer genuine questions (we can smell a bot a mile away by the way), so please do ask us anything by email, or if you want to join us, then that would be excellent – we are always looking for good content writers/researchers.
Happy reading!!!
